What is Soft Tissue Therapy?

Soft tissue therapy (or sports massage) offers deep tissue massage to help release tension in the muscles and also helps post-injury with the rehabilitation process.
I use a range of techniques with my clients, incorporating traditional massage with Soft Tissue Release (STR), Muscle Energy Techniques (MET) and Neuromuscular Techniques (NMT) as well as mobilisation and myofascial release. Sports MassageDepending upon the clients needs, I may use a range of these or just focus on a few of these during the session. These techniques therefore mean they compliment many people from different backgrounds, not just sports backgrounds.

Benefits of Soft Tissue Massage Techniques

Who Do I Treat?

I treat all ages young and old, but please note that anyone under the age of 18 must have parental/guardian consent prior to the session and be accompanied by a responsible adult for safe-guarding purposes.

What Can Be Treated?

Below is a list of what problems or conditions can be treated with the use of sports massage.

This list is not exhaustive, so if you feel that you may benefit from a sports massage but are unsure, then please feel free to Contact Me and I will be happy to discuss your options.

What To Expect

Your initial treatment will involve you completing a form with various questions to ensure that it is appropriate to treat you and also to try and help highlight any issues and what you want to gain from the treatment. I will assess your posture to help establish which specific areas need to be focused on, as sometimes the presenting complaint may not necessarily be the source of the underlying problem. If it is appropriate to treat you, I will provide hand-on treatment which will not only involve deep tissue massage but may also involve other techniques such as stretches. I may give you some post treatment exercises to do at home if appropriate and we can discuss further treatment needs/follow up appointments as necessary.

How To Prepare For Your Treatment

Please wear loose fitting clothing (such as baggy shorts) and secure underwear to the treatment session. It may also be necessary to remove various items of your clothing so that the areas I need to treat can be accessed easily. However I will always ensure that you are well covered with towels and I can always work through your clothing if you feel more comfortable with this.

Drink plenty of water before and after a treatment session in order to rehydrate. Have a gentle stretch if you feel the need to as it is quite normal to feel some discomfort in the areas treated during the 48 hours post-treatment but this will ease off in time. If you have any concerns after your treatment, please don't hesitate in contacting me as soon as possible.

If you are unsure as to whether you would benefit from a treatment session, I am happy to do a free telephone consultation to discuss your issue and any possible treatment options.
